With temperatures dropping and seasons changing, our wardrobes have to make a change as well. Luckily, we only need a couple of winter essentials to make it through the cold weather of the upcoming months, staying oh so cute in the process! Read on to find out which winter staples you’ll want to have in rotation this season.
1. The Practical Puffer Jacket
Puffer jackets are super easy to throw on—they’re lightweight and they provide great coverage and warmth for when you’re out and about in the cold. If you don’t already own a puffer jacket, I suggest a plain black one to start. This classic style goes with everything! Already own a black puffer jacket? Invest in other solid neutral colors for days you feel like giving your outfit a different color story.

If you’re a little more adventurous, animal prints are trendy, cute and can add a little oomph to any outfit!
2. Comfy & Cozy Knitwear
Bold, bright, printed, fitted or oversized—I would say this is THE winter wardrobe must-have. Quality matters when it comes to picking out knitwear, a good pullover could last you a very long time! Knitwear is definitely your best friend during the winter. It's perfect for whether you’re out and about layered under a coat or jacket, or even just for lounging around in. So many of us are working from home these days and these are a go-to for those WFH Zoom meetings!

3. A Good Pair of Blue Jeans
Ok, so this is more of an all year round staple, but they’re especially important during the winter! Regardless of what kind of fit or cut you prefer, when it comes to denim, we don’t discriminate!—a trusty pair of jeans are definitely an investment you need to make.
A more relaxed fit, like a good pair of Mom Jeans, is great for these colder months since they're easy to layer over leggings and thermals for extra warmth.
I recommend a medium wash which is more versatile and something that can take you from day to night.

4. Faux Fur
Freezing but make it fashion! As much as we love and want to live in our puffer jackets during the winter, there are some occasions where they just aren’t dressy enough to wear. Nothing elevates a winter outfit quite like faux fur—throw one on to look sophisticated and chic while still keeping warm.

5. Basic Black Boots
Need I say more? They’re a good balance between dressy and casual, plus they pretty much go with everything. A quality pair of black boots are definitely a wardrobe essential in the coming months.
Keep it classic with a Chelsea Boot or add a little more edge to your outfit with a Lace-Up Boot!
You won’t run out of options to choose from, so just make sure they’re comfy as well!

That rounds up our list of all the winter wardrobe staples you’ll need this season. Need help in building your wardrobe? Take the style quiz and Short Story’s got you covered!
