Platforms
Platforms and their easier-to-walk-in cousins "flatforms" have been emerging, reminding many of us of the 2000s Y2K trend. Platforms can easily add some height to your look without trying too hard and they will accentuate your legs. Go for a retro-inspired look by trying a bold-colored pair of flatform sandals with a pair of bootcut or flared jeans in a petite-friendly length that you won’t have to hem.
Feeling a bit scared by the 2000s era still? Try out this style in a neutral hue - something with a natural wood or cork heel will make this trend less middle school and sophisticated enough for brunch with friends on the weekend. This more neutral style goes great with a skirt or dress too which will make for the perfect springtime look.
Ballet Flats
Even those who don’t follow fashion trends know ballet flats are trending. From ballerina styles to pointy-toed tips - there is a ballet flat out there for you. But don’t confuse these flats for commuter shoes, because what they lack in height, they make up for in sparkle. Embellished flats are all the rage right now and the great thing about them is that they stand the test of time.
Before you go saying that you “can’t wear a flat because I’m petite” try out this styling advice. They look super cute with a pair of ankle jeans or trousers for work - showing a bit of ankle is the perfect way to look taller especially if your jeans are cut just right. Looking to elongate those legs? Try your flats with a short skirt! Achieve the same effect by trying them with a pair of looser mom shorts with a tee for a casual look.
Fisherman/Caged Sandals
The fisherman sandal has been gaining popularity and traction for the past few summers and for good reason. This style is sturdy and great for on-the-go! You can find styles that make a feminine aesthetic as well as an edgy one. If you feel like this style is cutting you off a bit at the ankle, you can do one of two things. First, try out an open-back mule style which will sit lower on your ankle.
If you still want to stick to the sandal style (which straps on making it great for your day running errands), opt for a sandal that more closely matches your skin tone to help your legs look longer. This style of shoe makes for the perfect music festival or concert look when paired with a romper or jumpsuit for a look that will go great with a pair of woven sandals.
Loafers
Loafers are often seen as fall and winter shoes especially given how preppy they are in nature. They may be in style right now, but have they even left the style scene? While they may seem a bit old-fashioned, a good pair of mules will get you far. A minimalist, neutral color like cream or tan is the perfect color to wear into summer! Opt for a slip-on style for the ease of your favorite flats that ooze luxury.
If you’re more on the bold side, try out a colorful penny loafer with your trousers for work. Style that combo with a fitted bodysuit for an on-trend look that will still stand the test of time. You can also try out a backless slip-on style for a more laid-back look that will go with your favorite straight-leg jeans or shorts this summer.
Vintage-inspired Sneakers
Sneakers are no stranger to the fashion space - and this season is no different. Retro-inspired sneakers are what we have our eye on for this season - think pops of color and a sleek design that will elevate your basic tee and yoga pants. This look will also add style to a simple swing-style dress as well while still maintaining a feminine look.
We also love this style of shoe with a business casual look. If your office allows for it, try out this shoe style with a pair of black trousers, and a sleeveless blouse, and layer on a fitted neutral blazer for a cool girl look that will rock the office.
We hope this post helped you set your foot in the right direction when it comes to shoe shopping this season. When it comes to shoes, remember to wear what’s comfortable for you - a great pair of shoes will take you far, and choosing the right pair will support your entire body as well. While we don’t sell shoes in our boxes at the moment, we DO have lots of great petite clothing items that will perfectly complement your shoe choices.
