Tights and Leggings

Dying to wear those shorts right now? Want to don that pretty floral dress? Then tights or leggings might be the perfect layering piece to make that happen.

They’ll keep your legs warm, while also adding a bit of edge and interest to your outfit. Complete the look with some boots, and you have a put-together winter-to-spring ensemble.

T-shirts

T-shirts are so versatile. When it’s hot, you can wear them alone as a top. When it’s cold, you can layer them under sweaters and sweatshirts. They’re also fabulous for letting your spring tank tops and sleeveless dresses get the spotlight in wintertime.

Just layer a neutral-color tee under your favorite garment, and you’re set! This casual layered look is also a centerpiece of ‘90s fashion, which has been on-trend for years!

Cardigans and Button-Down Shirts

The cardigan is one of the most classic layering pieces ever. Throw it over your spring tanks, tees, blouses, and dresses. Want to switch up the look a bit? Then opt for a classic button-up.

To be really on-trend, throw on the popular shacket, which works as the perfect middle ground between a shirt and a jacket.

Scarves

Scarves are a fashion lifesaver. These trusty accessories will keep you bundled up against the cold, look stylish, and are an essential part of a flawless layered look. Wrap it a hundred different ways over a simple tee or blouse, or open up a longer and wider one to use it as a shawl or wrap.

A scarf is also a great way to add a spring pop of color or pattern—“Florals for spring? Groundbreaking.”—to an otherwise neutral winter outfit.

Blazers, Jackets, and Coats

Sometimes the most obvious style choice is also the most fashionable. How can you go wrong in winter with a stylish blazer, jacket, or coat?! It will provide warmth for those springtime pieces you want to wear now and offer the finishing touch for a flawless layered look.

You can even get more lightweight pieces, like a coatigan (imagine if a cardigan and a coat had a baby), for when the temps warm up a bit, but you still need an outer layer.
